This October, NFL fever descends upon London as the league touches down in its official UK home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, writes Jimmy Johnson.
NFL London Games
Vikings vs Browns: Sunday 5 October
First up, the Minnesota Vikings take on the Cleveland Browns. The Vikings make a swift return to London after last year’s game, while the Browns are back for the first time since 2017. It’s set to be a gritty, hard-hitting opener.
Broncos vs Jets: Sunday 12 October
Another London clash sees the Denver Broncos face off against the New York Jets, again at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Broncos are making their first UK appearance in eight years. The Jets, meanwhile, return looking to avenge their London loss to the Vikings.
There’s something electric about bringing America’s gridiron game to London. Spurs’ stadium boasts the only NFL-specific pitch outside North America, complete with NFL-grade turf and an atmosphere amplified by half-time shows, occasional fly-overs and loyal fans waving flags and scarves.
Premier League at the Lane: Sunday 19 October
For those craving a more familiar brand of football, Tottenham Hotspur also take to the pitch, hosting Aston Villa at their north London fortress.
Expect a fiery encounter: Spurs’ Brazilian forward Richarlison is likely to square off in a heated battle against Villa’s towering centre-back Tyrone Mings. Both thrive on intensity and physicality, so brace for crunching duels, aerial contests and plenty of drama to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
This clash offers a perfect counterpoint to the NFL spectacle, a reminder that whether it’s helmets and shoulder pads or boots and shin guards, the beautiful game in all its forms is alive and kicking in N17.
