The capital comes alive during the Six Nations Championship, when the city fills with travelling supporters and local fans. At the heart of it all is Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, the iconic home of English rugby. This year’s tournament brings two major fixtures to the stadium. On Saturday 7 February, England face Wales, a showdown steeped in rivalry and pride. Just two weeks later, on Saturday 21 February, England return to take on Ireland for a match that could well shape the title race. With a squad blending rising stars and seasoned leaders, England promise fast, physical rugby and edge-of-your-seat intensity from the opening whistle.

If you’re heading to the stadium, it’s worth turning matchday into a deeper Twickenham experience. The behind-the-scenes stadium tour lets visitors explore the players’ tunnel, the England dressing room, pitch-side vantage points and even the Royal Box. The adjoining World Rugby Museum completes the journey, charting the sport’s evolution through interactive exhibits, memorabilia and historic treasures. Join England rugby legend Neil Back, a World Cup winner and former Leicester Tigers flanker, for a special Legends Tour of Allianz Stadium on 31 January.

As the Six Nations excitement continues, sport fans have another major spectacle in store. Alexandra Palace once again becomes snooker’s grandest stage as the Johnstone’s Paint Masters returns (12-19 Jan). The Masters is an elite invitation event featuring the world’s top 16 players, with expected competitors including Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Luca Brecel and defending champion Zhao Xintong, who stunned audiences with his 2025 victory. This year’s favourite is widely tipped to be Judd Trump, a crowd favourite with a sparkling record at Ally Pally. Inside the atmospheric Victorian hall, expect precision potting, tactical battles and the unique tension that only snooker can create. Combined with panoramic views across London, it’s one of the capital’s most distinctive sporting outings.

Just down the Thames, the excitement continues as the NBA London Game returns to The O2 on 18 January, with the Memphis Grizzlies taking on the Orlando Magic. High-flying dunks, buzzer-beaters and a full stateside atmosphere bring NBA energy roaring into London for one unforgettable night of basketball.

From rugby clashes to elite snooker and top-tier basketball, London’s winter sport season thrills at every turn.
