Faithful or Traitor? Live Out Your Own Castle Conspiracy in Britain

February 2, 2026Lisa Hylton

From candlelit round tables to mist-shrouded battlements, The Traitors has reimagined Britain as a land of intrigue, strategy and gothic drama. The good news for fans is that you don’t need an invitation from Claudia Winkleman to step inside this world. Across the UK, visitors can stay, explore and play out their own Traitor-worthy adventure, whether faithful or otherwise.

Scotland: At the Heart of the Conspiracy

There is a reason The Traitors feels inseparable from Scotland. With mist-draped glens, ancient fortresses and cinematic isolation, the Highlands provide the perfect psychological stage for alliances to form … and unravel.

At the heart of the series is Ardross Castle, the 19th-century Highland estate that has become instantly recognisable to viewers around the world. While the castle itself remains a private venue reserved for exclusive hire and events, simply standing at its gates is enough to feel the tension that defines the show.

Most visitors choose Inverness as their base — a welcoming city that balances historic charm with easy access to the Highlands’ most dramatic landscapes. From here, the Traitors fantasy unfolds naturally. A short drive leads to Urquhart Castle, its crumbling walls overlooking Loch Ness in suitably ominous fashion, or to Cawdor Castle, a place steeped in whispered legends, clan rivalries and Shakespearean intrigue.

On the Ayrshire coast, Glenapp Castle delivers grandeur with sea views and adventurous experiences, while The Castle of Mey combines royal history with coastal charm. For private stays steeped in centuries of heritage, Airlie Castle provides isolated grandeur in Angus. Ruined fortresses such as Huntly Castle and the star-walled Braemar Castle add atmospheric day-visit options with their sense of ancient strategic drama.

Adventure-seeking visitors can channel the show’s physical challenges by speeding across Loch Ness on a RIB boat, hiking remote forest trails, or taking a guided 4×4 or Land Rover safari through the Highland wilderness.

Wales: Legends, Myths and Medieval Drama

Wales brings a darker, more myth-laden edge to the Traitors fantasy; and with more castles per square mile than anywhere else in Europe, it is arguably Britain’s most naturally conspiratorial destination.

Just outside Cardiff, the fairy-tale towers of Castell Coch rise dramatically from ancient woodland. Though romantic at first glance, its shadowy interiors and forested approach feel perfectly suited to whispered alliances. Further north, the UNESCO-listed Conwy Castle dominates its walled town, offering vertiginous battlements and sweeping views that evoke power, surveillance and strategy.

Snowdonia (Eryri) adds even greater theatrical scale. Caernarfon Castle, built as a symbol of royal authority, feels imposing and ceremonial, while Harlech Castle stands isolated on its rocky outcrop, exposed to wind, sea and sky — pure Traitors tension. For something more atmospheric still, Carreg Cennen Castle perches precariously above limestone cliffs, its steep approach and folklore-rich ruins making it one of Wales’ most haunting sites.

England: Power, Pageantry and Psychological Play

England offers no shortage of strongholds where plots could thicken and loyalties quietly unravel. In Gloucestershire, Thornbury Castle delivers full Tudor drama. Once home to Henry VIII, it now welcomes overnight guests, with falconry, archery and grand chambers that feel tailor-made for a Traitor’s confession.

In Kent, Leeds Castle rises from its moat like a storybook vision. Alongside historic B&B rooms and medieval-style glamping, visitors can enjoy falconry and aerial adventure experiences across the estate.

For fans of The Traitors, the experience deepens with exclusive stays at Battel Hall, a five-star medieval manor redesigned by series three star Francesca Rowan-Plowden, or within the castle’s own State and Battlement Bedrooms. From dramatic interiors to rare ‘Dine and Stay’ evenings inside the castle walls, Leeds Castle delivers a richly theatrical escape for couples and groups alike.

Elsewhere, England’s stately homes add polish and psychological intrigue. Highclere Castle, globally recognised from Downton Abbey, offers gilded rooms and sweeping staircases.

For those who prefer their intrigue served with dinner, Lumley Castle looms above the River Wear. Its opulent four-star suites echo a bygone era — from baroque four-poster beds in the Bishop’s Suite to atmospheric chambers in the former chapel. Regular murder-mystery dinners invite guests to sleuth the stronghold over a three-course meal.

Blenheim Palace offers a Lights, Camera, Action film trail and Warwick Castle blends heritage, power and theatrical storytelling.

London: Play the Game for Real

Head to Covent Garden, where The Traitors: Live Experience brings the show’s mechanics to life. Teams take on missions, face psychological twists and gather at a dramatic Round Table, all within a few adrenaline-fuelled hours.

The Verdict

From Highland castles and English strongholds to Welsh legends and London gameplay, Britain offers a ready-made stage for visitors eager to step inside The Traitors phenomenon. Just one question remains:

Faithful… or Traitor?
