High Chic on the City Streets

For a city that is the birthplace of fashion as diverse as the bowler hat, the three-piece suit, the mini skirt and punk, style here has always been eclectic. Nowhere is that more evident than at London’s twice-yearly Fashion Week, says Kathryn Conway.

This September, luxury houses including Burberry, Erdem and Emilia Wickstead will unveil their spring/summer 2027 collections at London Fashion Week (LFW; 17-21 Sep), alongside names better known for bringing fashion to the masses at more accessible prices.

Take Marks and Spencer (M&S). This high-street icon is marking 100 years of its fashion offering with its very first catwalk show at LFW (18 Sep). While the event itself is invite-only, there’s no need to wait for the fashion pack’s report. M&S is offering instant gratification by making its new womenswear and menswear collections available to buy straight from the runway, both online and in selected flagship stores across the country.

One destination to check out is the newly revamped M&S Pantheon on Oxford Street. Spread across four floors, the store brings together food, fashion, homeware and beauty under one stylish roof. Head upstairs to explore the latest looks and try out the company’s new made-to-order suit service.

Elsewhere, the ever fashionable H&M is teaming up with photographer Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio platform for its LFW showcase, while the British Fashion Council (BFC) is championing Fashion Britain, a month-long celebration bringing designer panels and retail experiences to cities across the UK, including the capital. Follow @britishfashioncouncil on Instagram for all the details.

Finally, if serums and statement scents are more your style, head to Covent Garden for a 10-day takeover showcasing what’s new and what’s next in skincare, make-up, fragrance and wellness. Beyond Beauty (4-13 Sep) sees exclusive launches and expert masterclasses from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Space NK, which is joining the fun to transform the famous Piazza into an immersive beauty playground. It’s the perfect way to get set for the autumn season safe in the knowledge you’re bang on trend.
