Explore the local story of an engineering family that changed the world, Marc Isambard Brunel and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The Brunel Museum celebrates both engineering and performance in its Grade II-Listed Tunnel Shaft.
As well as building the world’s first tunnel through soft ground under a navigable river, the Brunels hosted the first underground concert party at the museum in 1827.
Go 16m underground with a tour of the Thames Tunnel Shaft.
To 30 September 2024: Tunneling Today: Learn about the history of tunneling and how it has developed today. The exhibition features a model of one of the Tunnel Boring Machines being used to dig a new 25km sewer line under the Thames.
