The Wimbledon Tennis Championships is an unmissable event held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in southwest London. Sports stars compete to win the men’s, women’s and wheelchair titles in both singles and doubles. The oldest and most prestigious tournament in the world, it has been held since 1877, and runs until 14 July.

There is a heavy association with strawberries, said to derive from a visit King Henry VIII paid to his Lord Chancellor, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. The chancellor’s cook allegedly served wild strawberries and cream as a dessert.

Watch out for last year’s champions, Carlos Alcaraz who won the men’s singles, and Marketa Vondrousova who won the women’s singles.

Queue early to try to snag a ticket for the day to see the action in person, or grab a drink at one of the several venues screening the event for free. Borough Yards plays the tournament every day on the big screen, offering plenty of surrounding restaurants, pubs and shops to enjoy. Everyman Screen On The Canal offers a waterside screening with movies afterwards in King’s Cross, while Battersea Power Station will show the finals on the large pop-up screen outside by the river. Other options include Screen On The Water, Covent Garden Piazza, Eccleston Yards, Portman Square Gardens and more.

The USA Men’s National Team will play South Sudan and Germany at The O2 on 20 and 22 July.

Hosted in partnership between USA Basketball and TEG Sport, the USA Women’s National Team’s game with Germany will mark the U.S. women’s first visit to London since winning the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.

After winning its 11th World title at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup, the USA officially qualified for the Olympic Games 2024. They’re seeking their tenth overall and eighth straight Olympic gold medal. Four teams will represent USA Basketball at the Olympic Games, including 5-on-5 men and women and 3×3 men and women. The 3×3 men are set to make their Olympic debut next summer.

Watch at a variety of American sports bars including Bodean’s, Sports Bar and Grill, Carlsberg Sports Bar and more.

The London T100 Triathlon returns

The London Triathlon returns for its 24th year with London T100 Triathlon taking place at Royal Victoria Dock 28 July at 7am.

The event keeps most of the same distances in running, swimming and cycling. This includes multiple distances in the sprint, super sprint, Olympic, sprint team relay and Olympic team relay. The one exception is the new 100km triathlon replacing the middle distance, as well as the introduction of a Pro Race.

Athletes of all abilities are welcome to compete in the triathlon. Do it alone or grab some friends and enter an event of your choice – or, if you don’t want to compete, you can watch it completely for free.

Expect road closures and delays on public transport when travelling on this day.
