David Bowie: You’re Not Alone transforms Lightroom into a fully projected, multisensory environment — part spectacle, part self-portrait — offering a rare and intimate insight into the musician’s life, work and imagination.

Using iconic performances, rarely heard interviews and never-before-seen material from the David Bowie Archive in New York, the show unfolds as a journey through Bowie’s ever-evolving worlds. From Space Oddity to Diamond Dogs, “Heroes” to Blackstar, each moment captures an artist driven by curiosity, reinvention and a desire to connect across boundaries of time, place and identity. Whether you are reliving these moments or discovering them for the first time, the experience offers a powerful reminder of Bowie’s enduring cultural impact.

A Multimedia Self-Portrait

Projected across Lightroom’s vast 11-metre-high walls and expansive open floor, You’re Not Alone surrounds visitors with a rich tapestry of moving images, sound and storytelling. The space itself becomes a canvas, immersing audiences in a dynamic visual world that shifts and evolves in parallel with Bowie’s artistic journey.

Performance footage, sketches, photography, handwritten lyrics and personal notes are brought together from a range of sources, forming a detailed and expansive visual exploration of Bowie’s creative process. These elements are not simply displayed, but woven together, creating a fluid and cinematic narrative that moves seamlessly between moments of spectacle and introspection. Structured in thematic chapters, the show explores the ideas that shaped Bowie’s work — from theatricality and transformation to spirituality, identity and the power of artistic expression. The result is both epic in scale and deeply personal, revealing the mind behind the myth and offering new perspectives on a globally celebrated icon.

Hear Bowie In His Own Words

At the heart of the experience is Bowie himself. Drawing from hundreds of interviews recorded across five decades at the cutting edge of art and culture, You’re Not Alone places his voice front and centre, guiding audiences through his thoughts on creativity, spirituality, identity and the ever-changing nature of artistic expression. This carefully constructed narrative feels intimate and immediate, as though Bowie is speaking directly to each visitor.

This powerful storytelling is brought to life through Lightroom’s state-of-the-art HOLOPLOT spatial audio system, with sound design by multi award-winning designer Gareth Fry (known for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the V&A’s David Bowie Is exhibition). Each track has been reconfigured to create a fully immersive soundscape, allowing audiences to feel completely enveloped in Bowie’s voice and music.

The result is a unique moving encounter that feels less like a retrospective and more like a conversation across time.

A Landmark London Experience

Produced by Lightroom, designed by 59, A Journey Studio and directed by Mark Grimmer (creative director for David Bowie Is) and Tom Wexler, the show combines cutting-edge technology with unparalleled archival material. It pushes the boundaries ohow audiences experience art, music and storytelling.

Set within Lightroom’s purpose-built venue, You’re Not Alone offers a cultural experience that is as visually spectacular as it is emotionally
resonant. Visitors can explore the space, view the projections from all angles and engage with Bowie’s work in a way that feels personal and immediate.
