4. Golden Union
Shopped ’til you dropped? Refuel at this retro chip shop just moments away from Oxford Circus. It offers all the classics: cod, haddock and plaice with those all-important chunky chips. 5. Poppies

Authenticity is the name of the game for East End founder Pat ‘Pop’ Newland. At Poppies, you’ll get a classic fish and chips, complete with side dishes including jellies eels and homemade mushy peas. From the 1950s uniforms to the retro memorabilia lining the walls and music tailored to each shop, stepping inside Poppies is an experience of its own. Branches in Spitalfields, Soho and Camden.
