This Christmas, escape the bustling streets of London and soak up the festive atmosphere of Windsor Castle, adorned with hundreds of Christmas decorations and twinkling lights.

Arriving at the Castle’s Visitor Centre you will encounter the first Christmas tree of your visit, before being guided by wreaths and garlands up to the Castle, where a twinkling tree in the atmospheric Inner Hall will welcome you as you enter the State Apartments. From there, marvel at the traditional 20-foot-high Christmas tree in St George’s Hall, sourced from Windsor Great Park and dressed with thousands of lights and hundreds of ornaments. Visit on 8, 9 or 12 December to hear local school and community choirs sing carols beneath the Christmas tree.

Beneath glittering chandeliers in the Waterloo Chamber, one of the largest rooms in the Castle, the table will be laid with a sumptuous display of objects from the Royal Collection and festive foliage.

The Semi-State Rooms, created as opulent private apartments for George IV and now used by members of the Royal Family for official entertaining, will also be open to visitors for the winter months from 24 November. The most opulent of these rooms is the Crimson Drawing Room, where another dazzling Christmas tree will be on display.

After exploring the State Apartments, treat yourself to a range of festive fare in the Undercroft Café, and browse for Christmas gifts in the Castle’s shops, where traditional decorations, seasonal chocolates and sustainable stocking fillers all make for perfect presents. Discover the new ‘Royal Christmas’ range of products, illustrated with festive imagery of guardsmen in the snow, corgis on sledges and the Royal Palaces adorned with Christmas decorations.

On the first three weekends in December, visit as a family and step back in time to experience a Victorian Christmas. Learn about how Christmas was celebrated during Queen Victoria’s reign, dress up as an elegant Victorian, devise your own royal Christmas menu, and design a tree decoration, wreath or angel just as a Victorian child would have done.

Christmas at Windsor Castle and all family activities are included with admission to the Castle.

As Windsor Castle is a working royal palace, closures or event cancellations may occur at short notice. Please check before visiting.
