After ticking off the landmarks like the London Eye and Tower Bridge, a trip to a royal palace is a must for any visitor. The Royal Collection have plenty planned for this summer too.
Fashion lovers really shouldn’t miss Royal Style in the Making at Kensington Palace (to 2 Jan 2022). The temporary exhibition explores the intimate relationship between fashion designers and their royal clients. On display for the first time in 25 years is Princess Diana’s infamous wedding dress, on loan from HRH The Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex.
Another rare piece of fashion history featured is a 1937 silk satin coronation gown for Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Glittering gowns, stylish tailoring and some surprises all await fashion fans and entry is included in palace admission.
Alternatively (or additionally!), a day trip to Windsor Castle may be of particular interest to those with a passion for sport, science, conservation and art. A special display, Prince Philip: A Celebration (to 20 Sep), commemorates the life and legacy of His Royal Highness, Britain’s longest-serving consort. Delving into his early life and naval career, his role as consort and his support for Her Royal Highness, The Queen, there is also a focus on his wide-ranging patronages and associations.
